Investments FAQ

If I do decide to make an appointment, what does it cost to work with an Independent Financial Planner?

At Tate Financial, we are always willing to provide a complimentary "second look" at your investment portfolio. We provide every potential client with a complimentary consultation. If you choose to join us, we are paid the same way as a financial advisor at the bank - we receive a commission directly from the investment companies that you choose to invest in.

What do I need for our first appointment?

A copy of your most recent investment statements (RRSPs, non-registered and TFSA) would be useful.  It will give us an idea of your current portfolio allocations and enable us to make recommendations on how it could be improved.

There are so many investment options! What is the difference between investing in my RRSP, a TFSA or an RESP?

Click here for a table that summarizes those 3 investment options and the benefits of each.  If you are interested in a non-registered option, we can also set you up with an Open Account for your investments.

Do I have enough money saved to work with a Financial Planner?

You do not need a minimum dollar amount in your investment portfolio to benefit from the services offered by a Financial Planner.  Give us a call - we'd be happy to help!

Insurance FAQ

What is the difference between “Life Insurance” and “Mortgage Insurance”?

Your home is probably the largest investment that you will ever make.  When you arrange a mortgage with a financial institution, they must ask you if you want to insure your mortgage through them. It is important for you to understand the differences between "Mortgage Insurance" from the bank, and "Life Insurance" through a Financial Planner. mtge_insurance_vs_life_insurance

I already have insurance for me, but is there anything available for my kids?

Yes, there is. We have access to a very innovative product that provides insurance protection for children in case they are diagnosed with 1 of 28 critical illness. If they are not diagnosed with a critical illness, after 20 years your premiums can be returned to you and used to help your child with post-secondary education or a down-payment for a house. If you'd prefer to not redeem your premiums, your child will have a fully paid Critical Illness Insurance Policy for the rest of their life.  Click Here for more details.

Why do I need insurance? How much do I need?

Life Insurance is an important part of any financial plan.  Insurance needs vary depending on your personal situation, and we will conduct a thorough needs analysis to determine what type(s) of insurance you may benefit from.
